Late Night Cram Session

Well. Here we are. Another late night studying for Anatomy & Physiology I. For all you nursing majors out there: take this class VERY seriously. I’m a Health and Wellness major, but we’re still required to take the course. It is by far the hardest course I have ever taken. Granted, I went to a fairly small private Christian high school and was never really “challenged,” but I’ve heard several public school students with IB credits say A&P is hard.

It’s not the material itself that is difficult, but rather the short amount of time we have to learn everything. We have a test and 10 questions based on the previous chapter due every Tuesday. Although this class is only 50 minutes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday’s (MWF), we have lab on Tuesdays for almost 2 hours. Basically, my only day off from Anatomy are Thursdays and boy do I love Thursdays!

I’m not writing this blog to discourage anyone from attaining their hopes and dreams, but rather to warn you to take college seriously so you’re not up at 4am the night before a test studying. Just a heads up ;)

Birthdays at the Webb

On Thursday night, one of my girlfriends turned 20 years old. It’s really exciting to see your friends getting older and watching everyone become adults around you. To celebrate, the birthday girl asked to do a girls night only at a local Mexican restaurant, Mi Pueblito’s (Mi Pubs to us college kids).

We all got dressed up, met her at her apartment, and took loads of pictures as most girls our age do. Unfortunatley, the picture taking process took longer than anticipated and we didn’t start getting in the car until 8:30pm. For those of you dedicated Grey’s Anatomy fans, you know the 2 hr season premiere started at 9pm that night. As selfish as this may sound, I chose to stay for the season premiere and told the girls I would meet up with them later for cake and ice cream. Now before you start judging me, hear me out. As delicious as Mi Pubs may be, it’s a restaurant off campus; which means we have to use gas to get there, pay for our meal, add gratiuity, and use gas to get back. Being the poor college student I am, sometimes these trips are simply out of the question.

The girls ate a delicious dinner and celebrated a beloved friends birthday and I got to enjoy a gut wrenching episode of Grey’s Anatomy. All in all, I would say it was a fairly successful night surround by great friends at Gardner-Webb University.

Late Night Wal-Mart Run, Anyone?

We all love the little town of Boiling Springs, NC. We love the walking distance to anywhere and everywhere, we love seeing familiar faces, and we especially love our one and only stop light. However, every positive does have a negative. To purchase anything past the hours of 10pm, you can expect to hop in a car and take the 15 minute drive into the next town, Shelby. The car rides are always rather interesting to say the least. Although freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus, there are several students without transportation and even more students with little or no gas money so there are always plenty of students looking for “Shelby rides.”

Several times a semester, I somehow find myself wandering the aisles of the Shelby Wal-Mart at 2am. Sometimes a hall mate will be in desperate need for index cards, and sometimes I just need a bottle of shampoo and 2am happens to be the first time I’m free for the day. The other customers shopping at Wal-Mart during the wee hours of the morning are quite comical. Last night, for instance, I was going down the wall mounting aisle looking for velcro 3M wall mounting tabs when I ran right into a 192-year-old man carrying a rather large man purse. At first, I shrugged it off. I mean, an older gentleman probably doesn’t want to carry all of his belongings around in his pockets and who knows, maybe he had to carry some kind of medication around. What stopped me, however, was upon second glance when I noticed beautiful, shimmering butterfly clip in the little hair he had left. Needless to say, I grabbed my velcro tabs and sprinted to the front to meet my friends and tell them my life changing tale from the home improvement section.

All in all, I would have to label the trip a success. Not only did I purchase my beloved tabs to hang my Chad Michael Murray poster, but I saw something for the first time: a man with a butterfly clip. Oh! And on the way back we stopped at Cook-Out and I got my favorite: a cappucino milkshake with toffee bar pieces. Mmmm!!! Looking back, it was definitely a great night :)
