We all love the little town of Boiling Springs, NC. We love the walking distance to anywhere and everywhere, we love seeing familiar faces, and we especially love our one and only stop light. However, every positive does have a negative. To purchase anything past the hours of 10pm, you can expect to hop in a car and take the 15 minute drive into the next town, Shelby. The car rides are always rather interesting to say the least. Although freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus, there are several students without transportation and even more students with little or no gas money so there are always plenty of students looking for “Shelby rides.”

Several times a semester, I somehow find myself wandering the aisles of the Shelby Wal-Mart at 2am. Sometimes a hall mate will be in desperate need for index cards, and sometimes I just need a bottle of shampoo and 2am happens to be the first time I’m free for the day. The other customers shopping at Wal-Mart during the wee hours of the morning are quite comical. Last night, for instance, I was going down the wall mounting aisle looking for velcro 3M wall mounting tabs when I ran right into a 192-year-old man carrying a rather large man purse. At first, I shrugged it off. I mean, an older gentleman probably doesn’t want to carry all of his belongings around in his pockets and who knows, maybe he had to carry some kind of medication around. What stopped me, however, was upon second glance when I noticed beautiful, shimmering butterfly clip in the little hair he had left. Needless to say, I grabbed my velcro tabs and sprinted to the front to meet my friends and tell them my life changing tale from the home improvement section.

All in all, I would have to label the trip a success. Not only did I purchase my beloved tabs to hang my Chad Michael Murray poster, but I saw something for the first time: a man with a butterfly clip. Oh! And on the way back we stopped at Cook-Out and I got my favorite: a cappucino milkshake with toffee bar pieces. Mmmm!!! Looking back, it was definitely a great night :)
